The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers has a precise bouquet, tightly wound at the moment with black cherry, boysenberry and cold stone aromas, much more backward than the Aux Thorey. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, tightly knit and focused, tensile with a precise, quite pointed, sorbet-fresh finish. There is something clockwork about this Murgers—every component synchronized the other.
Usually the more intense of the two Cathiard Nuits 1ers crus, and so it is once again. Dense black colour with purple edge. This has a much greater explosion of fruit, lively dark red. Fruit, good acidity behind, all quite deep and dense and backward though.
