Jasper Morris MW: ‘Cuvée du Saule’. Red to crimson in colour and a fresher bouquet, raspberry with a hint of something more acidulated. But ripe enough on the palate, is there a hint of volatile, if so doesn’t matter. Very exciting potential!
Deeper colour than the Clos de Bèze; deep cherry. Immediately bigger (though not grander) than Clos de Bèze, with a richer profile, more savoury notes, firmer tannins and greater volume. Fulsome. Very much a grand cru, but less of the Clos de Bèze’s finesse. (MH)
A perceptible if very slight whiff of volatile acidity adds lift to the deeply pitched nose of cassis, violet and game scents. The finer though once again less powerful flavors possess very good volume and solid richness on the mineral-inflected, firm and persistent finish that is a bit raspy but not short.
