iger-Belair's 2006 Echezeaux – from newly acquired acreage – strikes me as in some ways the wine that the Reignots is trying to – and hopefully could – become. Pungent wood smoke, game, black tea, distilled red fruits, and high-toned citrus oil fill the nose. On the palate, this boasts cut and brightness of sappy fresh strawberry and raspberry concentration, pungently tinged with white pepper, ginger, and bittersweet candied. An energetic, invigorating and penetrating finish barely gives you a chance to notice the abundance of fine-grained tannin or the presence of new wood as a discrete flavor element.
