The 2015 La Romanee Grand Cru has a deep color. The bouquet had just a touch of reduction that just took a few swirls of the glass to shake off. Underneath lies extraordinarily pure cranberry, raspberry and morello cherry aromas struck through with intense mineral notes. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, extremely well-judged acidity, a subtle marine influence (oyster shell) that becomes more prominent towards the finish. There is great frisson here, and it lingers very long in the mouth, leaving the tongue tingling long after the wine has departed. It should land at the top of my banded score once in bottle.
Rather reduced nose. Lifted and wild on the palate. A bit of a wayward character. Great tannin quality and with the salty, digestible quality evident in all this domaine?s wines. Lots to chew on. Needs time but it should all knit together eventually.
