Soaring from the glass with aromas of cherries, licorice, wild berries and sweet soil tones, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Champs-Chenys Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety, with an especially seamless, integrated profile. Framed by powdery tannins and mouthwatering acids, it's a real success.
Equally ripe and attractively layered aromas include those of black fruit confit, spice and a similar note of warm earth. The finer if less powerful medium-bodied flavors are supported by relatively fine-grained tannins on the youthfully austere and balanced finale that exhibits focused power. This too is unusually good and another villages that is worth checking out.
