The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru les Champonnet has an expressive, mineral-driven bouquet that shows great promise. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, good depth of fruit (cranberry, strawberry and red cherry) with a focused long and linear finish. This represents one of Boillot’s best 2013s. Excellent.
This is also beguilingly perfumed and pure with its expressive nose of essence of red berry fruit, earth and underbrush hints. There is a cool and restrained mouth feel to the lightly mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a linear, intense and lingering finish. This is a Gevrey of power and refinement. This is a lovely effort fashioned in an understated style.
