BOW (8.75)

Burghound (94)

A menthol top note can be found on the relatively high-toned red currant aromas that are liberally laced with notes of Asian tea, orange peel, hoisin and sandalwood. There is notably more volume and mid-palate concentration to the big-bodied flavors that manage to be at once elegant yet powerful, all wrapped in a very firm, mildly austere and hugely long finale. Excellent but note that patience will be required.

Jasper Morris (94)

Noticeable wood and firm reduction dominate the nose and thus all that can be noted is that the underlying fruit appears to be ripe. Otherwise there is good volume and an almost pungent minerality to the extract-rich and concentrated big-bodied flavors that possess a distinctly compact impression on the muscular, overtly powerful and beautifully well-balanced finish. Patience required.

Robert Parker (94)

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts has a slightly more floral bouquet than the La Croix Rameau and that lends it more volume, more puissance. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very understated at first, unfurling with time in the glass, very elegant and smooth with fine nervosité on the finish. Understated now, it would not surprise me if this ends up becoming one of Nicole Lamarche's best premier crus with bottle age.
