Aromas of red cherries, raspberries, raw cocoa, spices, rose petals and licorice preface the 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless wine that's deep, complex and perfumed. It's another one of the high points of the portfolio.
One of the paler pink-ruby colours. The bouquet feels more white soil, and then there is the weight behind, while retaining elegance, which the Echezeaux did not have. Pretty and fresh, very far from the more massive style of Bonnes Mares. Actually, this comes mostly from the brown clay part of the terroir but the vintage gives more elegance.
The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has one of the finest aromatics from Jadot this year with a seductive bouquet of wild strawberry, blueberry, sous-bois and hints of Earl Grey and wilted rose petals. Wonderful. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and crisp acidity. It's taut and fresh with a touch of spice toward the cohesive and persistent finish. This is a superb effort in such a challenging growing season.
