Fresh bright purple, the bouquet is quite discreet, then a wealth of fruit hits the front of the palate, but does not rise to the heights of nobility of Laurent’s greatest wines. Quite a firm finish. There is more structure here than shown by the Clos de Bèze.
Very successful. On the attack there is a full range of fruit, from ripe blackberry through to high-toned pomegranate, accented by notes of smoke and spice. The palate is tense and displays mineral depth, with a silky vibrancy but also richness and depth. Nothing is wanting, really, for a super Chambertin that should age for decade. Marvellous.
