The 2003 Brut Millesime Amour de Deutz is an intriguing wine. It is a decidedly rich Amour de Deutz, yet all of the wine’s signature elements are in place. The 2003 has slightly less aromatic nuance than the 2000 I tasted last year, but also quite a bit more fruit. Most fascinating of all is that the extreme qualities of the 2003 harvest are nowhere to be found. Bright hints of lemon, pears, pastry, white flowers and mint are beautifully woven together. This is a round, sensual Champagne that can be enjoyed now or cellared. Today it is firing on all cylinders, even if it is very young. The 2003 Amour de Deutz is 100% Chardonnay from Avize (50%), Le Mesnil (45%) and Villers Marmery (5%). This is Lot LA107D06011. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023.
A floral note winds through this balanced Champagne, which offers flavors of yellow apple, white raspberry, honey and candied lemon zest. Modest, minerally finish.
