Even better, and one of the top whites coming out of the Rhone valley, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Clairettes is an incredible blend of 100% Clairette that’s aged in demi-muid. Rich, textured and yet brilliantly focused, it displays notes of brioche, vanilla cream, white peach, honeysuckle and white flowers as well as medium to full-bodied depth, vibrant acidity and fantastic energy and precision. I’ve no idea how it will evolve, but couldn’t image it not dishing out immense pleasure over the coming 3-4 years. Drink now-2017.
Offers a lovely, flattering feel, with toasted macadamia nut and brioche notes leading the way, followed by creamed melon, yellow apple, glazed pear and piecrust flavors that all weave seamlessly through the finish. A final hint of bitter citrus lends contrast and added length. Bottled only in magnum format.
