Cupano's 2015 Cupano Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is stunning. It wafts up from the glass with a display of cedar dust giving way to black cherries, mixed with notes of sage, crushed stone and hints of smoked meats. The textures are silky and pliant in feel, with a combination of juicy acids and ripe red fruits that create a high-energy and fully satisfying impression. It’s structured yet remarkably fresh and balanced, tapering off to sweet herbal notes, hints of tobacco and mocha. The only fault I can find is that it’s so easy to like already - but is that really a fault? Bravo. Enjoy this now for its primary intensity, or cellar for three to five years for a softer and broader expression.
