Tasted at the estate and once again in my office, the 2020 Fico has a slightly aldehydic note that underlines the hot vintage in what is otherwise an extremely delicate and fragile wine made according to careful biodynamic and organic methods. This is part of the Fico experience as a wine that yearns to faithfully record vintage and territory, even if it means slight imperfections. This vintage reveals a round and sensual texture with velvety notes that support lots of dried raspberry and cherry skin. The wine opens to a vibrant dark ruby color. There is transparency and honesty in this special wine. You can taste the spirit of discovery and experimentation that was the impetus for Fico in a vintage like this.
Lots of spices, bark, mushrooms and dried flowers. Dried earth, too. Full-bodied, yet so fresh and long, with super-refined tannins that melt into the wine. Creamy, beautiful and rich. Vibrant and impressive on the finish. From organically grown grapes. No sulfites added. Drink or hold.
