Quiet, complex aromas of red and black fruit, fresh mint and sage, and black-pepper spice. Soft edges on a complex palate with textured grip that emerges from between the juicy layers. Nuanced and poised with a final saline kiss. (PS)
From 45-year-old vines on calcareous, volcanic gravel (phonolite) and aged over 18 months in French barriques (40% new), Keller's 2020 Kirchberg Oberrotweil Spätburgunder GG opens on the nose with deep, ripe, concentrated, yet juicy and elegant fruit and smoky tang. Intense and powerful on the palate, this is a silky, vital and grippy yet stimulating Pinot Noir with fresh tannins and iodized salt on the finish. This is more feminine compared to the masculine Eichberg, and the Kirchberg is also more developed than the slow-starting Eichberg. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork.
