The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseigneres is wonderfully open. Though somewhat small-scaled, the style and character of the year are in evidence in this round, accessible wine. Sweet floral notes wrap around the radiant, ripe finish.
Greenish straw, very slightly deeper colour than some vintages. Light struck-match character and a bit of green apple on the palate. Crisp, crystalline with pure fruit and convincing undertow. It may even be sufficiently like Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc to be happy with tonight's English asparagus. (JR)
