The 2016 Echezeaux Grand Cru exhibits aromas of dark berries, baking chocolate, grilled squab, Asian spices and a subtle framing of toasty new oak, followed by a full-bodied, ample and expansive palate with a nicely layered, concentrated core, juicy acids and fine structuring tannins. Fifty percent of the crop was lost to Spring frosts, so it's no surprise that the wine is deeper and more intense than the 2017 rendition.
Bright, pale crimson. Quite an earthy nose. Round, juicy fruit. Not immediately obvious that this is grand cru level. For value I'd choose the Chambolle village wine any day.
