A small cuvée that's fermented in barrel, the 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru offers up aromas of sweet berries, licorice, warm spices and creamy new oak. Full-bodied, rich and layered, it's velvety and enveloping, with ripe, powdery tannins and succulent acids.
Generous wood and menthol characters surround the spicy and decidedly ripe aromas of black cherry, cassis and humus. The attractively textured, if not especially concentrated, flavors exude a refreshing salinity on the complex and sneaky long finish that is sufficiently structured to suggest that a 10 to 12-year aging curve should see this at its peak.
