Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Laurent Ponsot?s Corton Grand Cru Cuvee du Bordon ?11 offers impressive intensity on the nose: plenty of wood here, although there is at least a satisfactory level of fruit to back it up. The palate is medium-bodied with a zesty, lively entry. It does not have the sophistication or complexity of top Corton, although it is balanced, clean and fresh on the finish. It needs a little more sophistication.
From Corton Les Paulands. Dark crimson. Ripe black cherry fruit flavours and then lots of tannin. Makes one realise how relatively soft the 2011 vintage is! Slightly tough on the end.
