The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Clos de la Marechale is a seriously dark, rich and concentrated wine that stands apart from most of the production here. The intense core of fruit powers through to the intense, imposing finish where sweet spices and licorice add the final layers of complexity.
Quite deep crimson. Mossy nose. Fresh and vibrant, perhaps a little chewy on the end without quite the virility of the Chambolles. But pretty well done! Quite tough and sculpted with a tiny bit of bitterness on the end. No more than 20% new oak. Drying end. Not the lusciousness of the Chambolles. Bitter cherry.
