The 2009 Clos de Vougeot Pres le Cellier is a dark, sumptuous wine that shows quite a bit more textural richness and depth than the Grand Montpertuis bottling. There is a layered quality to the fruit I find especially appealing here. This is made from the estate’s larger piece in Clos de Vougeot measuring 2.7 hectares that Meo has christened Pres le Cellier. Meo says the terrain here yields rich wines, but the wines themselves tell a different story, at least in 2009..
A spicy version, sporting cinnamon, clove, licorice and black cherry aromas and flavors. This is intense, verging on chewy in texture, with a firm underlying structure. Licorice and mineral converge on the aftertaste.
