The 2015 Corton Clos Rognets Grand Cru has a tightly-wound bouquet with a vein of grey slate permeating the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin in the mouth, quite grainy in texture with a strict, quite linear finish, hints of hoisin just lingering on the aftertaste. There is good energy here and it should gain more cohesion by the time of bottling, and may possess the longest aging potential.
A very ripe yet still agreeably fresh and beautifully complex nose is comprised by liqueur-like aromas of spice, plum, earth and the classic wisp of the sauvage. There is outstanding richness and concentration to the powerful and mouth coating flavors that deliver seriously good persistence on the impeccably well-balanced finish. This is a big but graceful wine that should also amply repay extended cellaring, indeed it's going to require at least a decade of it.
