Mingling notes of wild berries and plums with hints of sweet spices, licorice, orange rind and espresso, the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru En Orveaux is medium to full-bodied, layered and multifaceted, framed by powdery structuring tannins and lively acids. It's one of the finer-boned, more nuanced wines in the range this year.

Borderline dominating wood and menthol push even strongly reduced aromas to the background. The very rich, opulent and mouthcoating flavors possess a velvety and very seductive mouthfeel though the complex but warm finish is slightly drying today. I suspect that the dryness will eventually age out but it's far from clear that the wood treatment will eventually be successfully integrated. This very rich effort will most please those who enjoy plenty of wood.ral notes in the aftertaste.
