The 2012 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru was less affected by coulure than the Echezeaux and so quantities are only slightly down. It is matured in 60% to 70% new oak from five different cooperages. The nose has a very floral, elegant opening with rose petal infused red cherry and strawberry fruit that gains vigor almost with every swirl of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a candied opening: crisp redcurrant and raspberry fruit with sublime mineralite; great structure and precision towards the finish. The new oak is barely noticeable here but prolongs the finish. This is another outstanding 2012.
