The 2016 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has lovely black fruit on the nose, touches of sous bois and morels coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, sappy and juicy in the mouth with plenty of red cherry and orange pith notes toward the grippy finish. One of the best from Marchand-Tawse in 2016.
In Mazoyères but they call this Charmes because they have a Mazoyères in the domaine range. The fruit is from their neighbour, who is also organic.
Dark cherry red with a purple rim. Gorgeously fragrant. Knee-deep in ripe red fruit. So sweet on the nose and also sweet on the palate. Rich, dense and the perfume still escapes. Generous but so fresh and dense and really complete. Succulent, chewy and very long. (JH)
