Another effort that will require patience, the 2013 Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes is slightly more approachable and textured than the Les Bessards, yet still has a firm, structured feel to go with integrated acidity. Exhibiting gorgeous notes of crushed rock, vanilla bean, liquid violet and ample crème de cassis and black raspberry fruit, it’s full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with lots of sweet tannin. Give it 2-4 years and drink it through 2033.
Ripe for the vintage, with a fleshy core of plum compote and raspberry coulis flavors, backed by ample cocoa-edged grip that melds through the loam- and anise-accented finish.
