More Burgundian in style, the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve Auguste Favier (70% Grenache and Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvedre) has bright acidity in its medium-bodied, nicely concentrated frame. Giving up notions of spring flowers, cassis, forest floor and toasted spice, it should benefit from short-term cellaring.
Juicy and still youthfully taut, with the core of raspberry pate de fruit and plum coulis flavors waiting to unwind. Lovely anise, black tea and mineral notes fill in on the finish, which is plush and energetic. A delicious wine in need of moderate cellaring.?
