The 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Manachiara is a fabulous rendition that has held up beautifully now past the 15-year mark. The fruit tones have all but slipped to the back but there is enough fleshy consistency left to support a broader spectrum of smoke, lead pencil, crushed flowers and licorice. The floral component, especially the dried rose, is the most nuanced. The palate shows firmness and drying tannins.
Dark ruby, with a garnet edge. Aromas of licorice and black cherry, with hints of dried flowers. Turns to crushed raspberry. Full-bodied, with ultrafine tannins and beautiful fruit. Goes on and on.
