Dark color. Dramatic, rich nose indicates ripeness, as it is fruit-filled and can’t hide its alcohol. There are notes of cherry, currant, smoke, and spice. On the palate, the 1998 is rich, fat, glycerol, sweet, and juicy. The fruit is quite delicious, full and voluptuous, with excellent acidity as well. This well-rounded wine improved with each return to the glass. Long, penetrating finish shows a little heat. Nearly at the dawn of peak drinking years, this bottle would have benefitted from a few more years in the cellar.
Lovely, subtle yet complex aromas of currants, sage and green olives lead to a full-bodied red with a solid core of fruit and well-integrated tannins. Still very reserved on the finish, but those who are patient should be rewarded. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
