Keller's 2018 Enselberg Spätburgunder GG is from a vineyard in the west part of the Kaiserstuhl and benefits from a nice view of Alsace. The volcanic soil has a layer of loess, and that makes the wine very charming on the nose, which is precise fresh and fruity as well as spicy, as if you cut a really hot pepperoni in very thin slices. The palate is juicy, finessed, playful, very elegant and already accessible, and the finish is energetic and fresh, with good tension and grip. Very delicate Pinot Noir from the Kaiserstuhl.
The smoky oak and the hint of funk make this a bit challenging right now, but on the palate this is at once rich and fresh with slightly grainy tannins that help make it more lively at the finish.
