Robert Parker (93)

The top-of-the-range 2019 Rudeles Cerro del Cuberillo shows the improvement in the use of oak when tasted next to the 2014, a wine from a different enological era. This Tempranillo is from very old vines from a slope at 950 meters in altitude, and it comes from very low yields and good ripeness at 14.5% alcohol. It matured in French oak barrels for 15 months, but as I said, the oak feels neatly integrated and folded into the wine. This is powerful and concentrated, with abundant chalky tannins and good aging potential. Unfortunately, there are only 310 bottles of this wine.

BOW (8.50)

This vintage has just been released and needs long decanting. 2019 was rated an excellent vintage for Ribera del Duero. The vines produced the perfect grapes, both in quality and in quantity. For the Cuberillo vineyard, this resulted in very concentrated grapes, giving a powerful, concentrated and complex wine.

Nose: though the wine is still relatively closed, the nose already offers whifs of dark fruits, spices and some beautifully integrated hints of wood.
Taste: after some time decanting, hints of vanilla, black fruits (cassis, blackberries). A fresh acidity developes, the balance shows this wine will get better with time.
Drinking window: 2025-2040
