Notions of freshly baked bread, pear, orange oil, hazelnuts and white flowers introduce the 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Sous le Puits, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and vibrant wine with a cool, fresh profile that reflects its high-altitude origins. This site, which rarely suffers in drought conditions, seems to perform better and better.
Pretty aromas include those of lemon-lime, smoked green apple and acacia blossom. The sleek, intense and beautifully delineated flavors seem constructed on a base of firm minerality while exhibiting fine length on the citrusy, bone-dry and youthfully austere finale. Lovely if very compact at present.
Slightly fuller colour, which is typical of the Jean-Claude Bachelet wines which are aged in barrel for two years. The nose both reductive and honeyed at the same time, with some floral notes. This has a fine sense of balance, some layers, a fair amount of oak, medium acidity, and very good length.
