TThere are just six barrels of the 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru this year (usually there is around eight) that matured in 50% new oak. It has a very powerful, you could almost say "dramatic" bouquet with layers of red berry fruit, crushed rose petals, quince and minerals. The palate is medium-bodied with sumptuous red and black fruit, hints of pencil lead underneath with conspicuous sous-bois notes towards the peacock's tail of a finish. What a wonderful Charmes-Chambertin...but that is what we have all come to expect these days. Whilst there is not a gulf between his grand cru and the premier or even village cru in 2015, it is still a gorgeous, somehow heart-warming Charmes-Chambertin.
