Robert Parker (92)

Bachelet’s 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux (from a tiny cru adjacent to Mazis and still palpably gassy from late malo) offers a profound nose of fresh blackberry and smoked meat. It displays a lean, sharply-focused palate of ripe and deep but tart black fruits and salted, toasted walnuts, with an undertone of bitter chocolate. The contrast of darkly-hued fruit, stony minerality, and palpably high extract with persistent fresh, tart, juiciness is striking, but this clearly outstanding wine nevertheless really needs time to knit itself and reveal its future personality.

Burghound (93)

Like all of the '05 Bachelet wines I tasted the Corbeaux displays enough wood to notice though not so much as to dominate the distinctly sauvage and highly complex dark berry fruit and earth aromas that remain largely if not completely primary in character. There is the same excellent complexity to the utterly delicious and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract on the still firm finale that delivers outstanding length on the impeccably well-balanced finish. Thanks to the abundance sap this is not only quite drinkable now but it's enjoyable as well and thus my advice to hold for a few more years to allow the tannins to mellow is less important than usual.
