A restrained if very pretty nose grudgingly offers up its mix of red and dark currant, Asian-style tea and a suggestion of dried tangerine peel. Here too the texture of the medium weight flavors is both sophisticated and seductive with equally fine tannins if less minerality on the balanced, complex and very stylish finale. Chaumes typically drinks reasonably well young, and this version should as well.
A fuller crimson purple, with an immediately impressive density of fruit on the nose, red berries with a couple of darker inflections. Builds beautifully on the palate, mostly fresh red fruit, very pure, with a little white pepper behind. Very stylish and quite persistent.
