The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos du Roy is one of the richer wines in the range, exhibiting notes of honeyed orchard fruit, citrus zest, white flowers and lilac, followed by a medium to full-bodied, bright and satiny palate that's pure, layered and saline. Formerly known as the Clos Reyssié, this is always a more muscular bottling, so the cooler vintage has actually imparted unusual finesse.
The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos du Roy is mainly aged in regular barrels rather than demi-muids. As it just had been bottled, the nose is hard to read and slightly obscured by the SO2 that will assimilate with time. The palate is well balanced with a tang of mandarin and peach skin. Tight towards the finish yet quite long, this will be a very seductive, more-ish Pouilly-Fuissé that will be difficult to resist in its youth.
