The 2022 Meursault Les Vireuils comes from a parcel with a northeast exposure in a cool microclimate. This has an attractive nose: Golden Delicious, lanolin, hints of honeysuckle in the background. The palate is very well-balanced with a waxy texture. There’s plenty of extract here and good weight on the back end with an almost Southern Rhône-like pithiness. Very fine.
A cool, pure and beautifully airy nose combines notes of just sliced citrus, acacia blossom, hazelnut and a touch of wet stone character. There is lovely delineated and tension to the medium weight flavors that possess an almost aggressive minerality that adds a sense of lift to the balanced, youthfully austere and impressively long finale. This chiseled effort is terrific for its level and absolutely one to consider, in short, it's textbook Vireuils.
A little more in the colour here, a ripe bouquet with a touch of bacon fat reduction. Not excessive. This fills the mouth very nicely then stretches out with more tension behind, a touch of fresh citrus along with some orange zest, clearly good mineral acidity throughout. Jean-Marc notes the good plant selection in his Vireuils. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Oct 2023.
