An airy, layered and pretty array of floral, pear, apple and lemon-lime nuances are framed by a deft application of wood. The more refined and generously proportioned middleweight flavors possess a really lovely texture that is succulent but punchy, all wrapped in a balanced and beautifully persistent if tightly coiled finale that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This could use better depth but the aging curve of a decade plus should easily allow that to transpire.
Offering up aromas of pear, waxy citrus fruits and white flowers, the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with racy acids and a long, saline finish. Moreau has brought real cut and tension to this site in this cooler vintage.
