Shortly before bottling, Lignier's 2006 Morey-St.-Denis Les Chaffots – from mature vines in parcels high above the village and adjacent to Ponsot's winery – displays ripe black raspberry fruit shadowed by its spirituous framboise counterpart; a firm, bright palate underlain by stone and chalk that lend an aura of austerity; and finishes with impressive penetration and length. Spicy and carnal nuances emerge with time in the air, and this should be a serious wine for giving 2-3 years in the cellar and then enjoying for a further half dozen.
