The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Cras has a tightly wound, quite stony, slightly austere bouquet. The palate has a chalky entry and a firm backbone, slightly dry tannin but with good weight on the finish. It will hopefully develop a little more flesh with continued barrel aging. Granted, it is cohesive and long, but I would like more Chambolle character to come through.
An exceptionally pretty and attractively scented nose features notes of red berry fruit liqueur, spice and floral hints. I very much like the purity of the refined but definitely punchy middle weight flavors that possess a lacy mouth feel on the mid-palate but tighten up significantly on the firm, dusty and moderately austere finish. Lovely and this intensely mineral-driven effort is very Les Cras in character.
