Tasted out of bottle and showing much better than last year (which is common with Isabel?s wines), the 2013 Chateauneuf du Pape Colombis was fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged 18 months in two-year-old tronconique barrels. Kirsch, ground pepper, black raspberry and ample Proven?al herbs all flow beautifully to a medium to full-bodied, voluptuous and sexy profile on the palate. This is as hedonistic as it gets in 2013 and this one of the wines to seek out.
This red sports a lovely beam of warm cassis, along with steeped plum and raspberry fruit flavors. Notes of singed mesquite, black tea and spice fill in on the finish, which shows a deeply buried bolt of iron. Rock-solid.
