An elegant and airy nose portrays the perfumed essence of red cherry, raspberry and cool floral wisps. The equally elegant and refined flavors possess a lacy, even lilting, mouthfeel but with no lack of punch on the precise, minerally and youthfully austere finale where a hint of bitter pit fruit appears. This is pretty much textbook Carelle.
A bright even and deep purple. There is some life to the fruit but not as vibrant as one would like. Darker berries on the palate through the middle, fairly firm tannins. Did this vineyard suffer from the heat and drought? For what ever reason I am not seeing the elegance of Volnay at this stage.
